competing grounds

6 min 36 sec ago
I have a uC board that can be powered by a battery and USB. When I
download code through the UART I connect only the USB power. If I
wanted to download code with the battery powering the board, could I
just connect the grounds? Someone said I could do this, but it seems
to me dissimilar grounds would cause a potentially bad current flow.

TechShop deal for a month membership

6 min 36 sec ago
In case anybody is interested, I noticed that there is a special deal (2
days remaining) for the Tech Shop at $95 for a one month membership, plus
1-2 classes! This may be helpful for somebody needing machining resources
to build a robot! :-)

Pi Robot 2 - Take 2

6 min 36 sec ago
Hello HBRC'ers,
Now that I have played with the (Maxwell inspired) Pi Robot 2 for a
month, I've made some modifications to the design to address some of the
shortcomings I have discovered:
* center of gravity is too far forward--too easy to tip the robot over
forward
* 12" round plates make for a tight fit for all the components and

Super Happy Dev House this Saturday.

This is a cool event for hackers of all kinds - It would be great if we could get a HBRC table there and hack some robots. We'd probably get a whole bunch of new members. I plan to show up after 5 pm with my Turtlebot, working or not.

ROS, Arduino and Bluesmirf problem

6 min 36 sec ago
I am trying to use a Bluetooth Bluesmirf to exchange message between Ubuntu
and code running on an Arduino via rosserial. If I use a USB cable, I can
communicate with the Arduino, but when I try to do that via bluetooth it
fails.
I have tried to simplify things to have a simple program running on the

Saleae Open House (Logic analyzer startup in SF)

6 min 36 sec ago
Hi all,
My startup, Saleae LLC is having an open house this Thursday at our new
office in SF, starting at 7pm. I thought you might like to go.
We make logic analyzers - digital data recorders used for debugging or
reverse engineering any kind of digital electronics.
Come by and see how we do automated testing, where we assemble, and what a

SIG Reminder

6 min 36 sec ago
Welcome to one of those relatively rare February's with 5 Wednesdays,
although not really rare for leap years, so without further ado....
This is a reminder that the SIG meeting is this coming Wednesday, Feb
22, at the
TechShop in Menlo Park (120 Independence Dr), at the usual time, 7:30
pm, and including the usual suspects. Bring what you're working on to

For you who are interested in autonomous, mobile robots, the course might
be right down your alley.
The course is free (unless you want credit at Stanford), and it starts
tomorrow, 20 Feb. So sign up now if you're at all interested: there are no
obligations. (Sorry for the short notice!)

Looking for partners to participate in Cloud Robotics Hackathon

Hi All,
I am looking for partners to participate in the Robotics Hackathon in Bay
Area...anyone?
Have registered the kit (today was the deadline to register a team/so I
have registered one, but now I need team members :))
Looking for someone with Android Development Experience and ADK experience

Multiple subscriptions for rosserial on Arduino

6 min 36 sec ago
I have been through the ROS Arduino tutorials and been able to get most of
them working including the Servo tutorial. I would like to take that code
and expand it by adding a second subscriber for a different servo function
like sweep instead of just moving the servo once.

When I try to add the second subscriber:

Hardware interrupts for Analog pin to detect sound wave

6 min 36 sec ago
Hi,

I am using Arduino Uno's Analog pin to detect a sound wave.
For each Analog reading, it takes ~ 110 us for Uno board to read.
If I change the sampling rate (for example, chapter 18 at "Arduino
CookBook" by Michael),
then each Analog reading can be shorten to 17 us.

However, for my application, I just want to know the exact time the

Hi,

I am running a make (from my CMakeLists.txt) on my project and I keep
getting this group of errors that I can't seem to fix. Can anyone
help out?

Thanks Gene
