Homebrew laser cutter project

Here is a homebrew laser cutter project I ran across on KickStarter. They seem to have their act together reasonable well on this one. Looks like a project to watch.

I bought a electric frying pan for solder reflow but the dial only
goes to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Is this going to be hot enough, or do
I need to return it and look for something hotter? Thanks.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to mention that we had a special guest in from Canada (for RoboGames) at our last meeting "Erin Kennedy" AKA "RobotGrrl". Here's her website:

She has a number of instructional videos on YouTube and hosts an online "Robot Party" Thursday evenings. Needless to say she's quite the roboticist. RoboBrrd is classic!

Where do people get their solder paste? Is there someplace local? I
won't be able to store it after I buy it because I won't have a fridge
for this purpose, so I wanted to buy a small amount.

Lots of parts though.

HBRC @ Maker Faire 2012

HBRC Mailing List - New Topics - 40 min 20 sec ago
It looks like we have 6 extra passes if anyone else would like to participate. Some of us were participating with other groups and signed up with the HBRC because their status was uncertain. Regardless, my goal is these passes not be wasted so if anyone else wants to participate here's another opportunity! Send me an email or respond on the list. First come, first serve. Instructions for printing the passes will be sent to individuals next week. Maker Faire is May 19-20 (only 10 days!).

Question about making turns

HBRC Mailing List - New Topics - 40 min 20 sec ago
I've got the 3 wheeler as yet unnamed. When I make a turn with it, or
any I have ever built in the past, I drive one wheel forward and drive
the other in reverse. I got to thinking about it today and am
wondering if that is how most of you do it?

The alternative would be to brake one wheel and drive the wheel

Kiddie car motors / CIA robot

HBRC Mailing List - New Topics - 4 hours 10 min ago
I'm a big fan of these "junkie" motor gear boxes. I'm happy to see
from a previous post that they are available on line (I'm getting too
old to dumpster dive).

I think they would be well suited for a configuration I saw at FIRST
championships presented by the CIA. Ya, those guys. It would be

Looks like a modified humanoid robot kit. Still very cool.

GlobalSpec is having their annual online Industrial Automation &
Robotics Systems Trade Show on May 23. I seem to remember last year
they had some interesting material available but I was looking at it
after the fact. Anyhow, it's free, no travel, for what it's worth.
